It’s good to be back..
It’s that time of the year again folks! Indeed, SMAMUN is back for the 7th year running.
Welcome to grueling sessions of debate, a plethora of social events, a kaleidoscope of delegates from across Pakistan and last but not least, the time of your lives; welcome to Saint Mary’s Academy Model United Nations 2011. Promising to be the biggest SMAMUN so far, the conference will be held through 26th-30th July, 2011. As always, gracing the magnificently scenic campus of SMA will be students from schools, colleges and universities alike.
The SMAMUN society once again brings to you Pakistan’s second ever Model United Nations, and the first to be held at college level. Recognized by the United Nations as an official MUN, SMAMUN was incepted back in 2005 as a nonprofit student run organization. Over the past 6 conferences SMAMUN has managed to cement its place among the most prestigious and renowned band of MUNS in Pakistan, one that aims not only at making the youth socially responsive but also to inculcate in them the ways of diplomacy and foreign politics.
We aim at endowing all our delegates with high quality debates in the 10 committees that this years SMAMUN is going to be simulating. Delegates, representing their respective countries, would not only be expected to debate their country’s stance on the most pressing issues facing the modern world but would also be required to follow the proper parliamentary procedures that are integral parts of any Model United Nations conference.
Moreover, this year’s SMAMUN promises to add more to the MUNing experience by adding a fifth day to the event. We’ll be simulating a crisis committee involving the best debaters from every individual committee on a fifth day special session. This has never been done before, and we are sure that this new twist to the tale of MUNs will make your conference even better. The diplomat who manages the scenario most admirably will be awarded “Best Diplomat SMAMUN ‘11”. All delegates will also be provided with the opportunity to socialize and interact with renowned analysts and revered personalities belonging to the fields of diplomacy, politics, military and social work in a series of intellectually stimulating guest speaker sessions which will be held throughout the conference.
But there’s much more to SMAMUN than just debating. The first evening starts off with the modified version of the Global village, renamed the “Global Parade” followed by social events that include a concert, a carnival and a thematic dinner! Countless activities such as counterstrike, futsal and movie screenings have been arranged to keep you engaged throughout the breaks. This and much, much more is just waiting to tantalize your funny “and” your fun bones.
In conclusion, all of us here in the Host Team hope that this year’s event is one that you’ll never forget. We’re eagerly looking forward to blowing the summer heat and the examination stress off your minds,
